These charming bottom-dwellers earn their name from the distinct black patches over their eyes and at the base of their tails, contrasting beautifully against a pale body. They are incredibly social fish that spend their day scavenging the substrate for leftovers, often seen wiggling their way through sand or fine gravel. To see their best behavior, keep them in a group of at least six. They stay relatively small, making them a perfect addition to peaceful community tanks where they won't be outcompeted for food by faster surface feeders.

• Provide a soft sand substrate to protect their delicate sensory barbels.
• Prefer cooler water temperatures compared to many tropical species, ideally mid-70s.
• Highly social nature requires a school to prevent stress and shyness.
• Omnivorous diet should include high-quality sinking pellets and frozen bloodworms.
